Hello Zombie Escape players
Are you tired of feeling like you have nothing to "work towards" on the Zombie Escape server? There is a ranking system as we all know, but this system has not accurately represented the investment and performance of most players. It has heavily rewarded door-hugging to win maps, killing humans easily as a zombie on certain maps, and even encouraged players to go to spectate rather than losing points to a death. Not only that, but this rank system has carried over for many years now since the last reset. This gives the impression to many new comers or players with less time (both of which are just as important to us as the main VIP's or active players) that they can never reach a high rank. Due to the impossibility of the endeavor, players don't value it as something realistically achievable, thus it holds less value or prestige that many hope it can or should. If players don't desire something, then it is meaningless. Let alone the fact that there is no actual reward for being a high ranked player other than being at the top of a list which at this point in time has grown stale.
Our goal over the last several months has been to slowly incorporate systems that give all kinds of players avenues to accumulate points and thus represent everyone's efforts more accurately.
These changes have consisted of:
- Re-balancing map completion point rewards
- Map tiers: Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard
- Adding more points for sticking it out as a zombie rather than going to spectate
- Losing points for being a coward and going to spectate instead of taking the death and playing as zm
- Encouragement of defending via various methods
- Shooting gives money to re-buy more equipment as well as you get rank points for damaging zombies
- Being among the "top-defenders" gives you even more rank points and you can prevent from being infected
We also have more ideas that can be added at later times as we get this system officially off the ground and continue to balance it. One example includes rewarding a custom number of points for actions or accomplishments on certain maps.
- Getting the box on Deathstar_Escape onto the ship
- Getting on top of the Arctic Escape containers
- Being first on PotC race map
Of course this requires going in manually to add these achievements, which is why we have not done it. It is a lot of work, and if we do decide to implement it, we will need a lot of your feedback and ideas.
So why did we add all of these rank features seeing as the main problem isn't solved?
We are getting to that. Of course all of these more fair methods of getting points are cool and all, but the rank still means nothing if the same players from so long ago are always in the top spots. This leads us to the main point of this announcement... We are resetting the ranks! This may upset some of you who are in those top spots, but I hope that some of my reasoning for why the rank means nothing have sunk in.
Also, do not fret, we greatly appreciate all of you who have played so much and for so long on our server! This leads us to the 2nd best part... Everyone in the Top 50 will be receiving a reward!
The rewards will follow a system as so:
Tier 1 rank - Top 50 players
Tier 2 rank - Top 25 players
Tier 3 rank - Top 12 players
What are these rewards you ask? I am sure many of you have heard of some rumors here and there and possibly even had an idea that this reset was coming. At this time we are not ready to 100% disclose the rewards which are up for grabs, but there should be some hints somewhere around here
The rewards will range from anything like: player skins, donator+ - VIP access, to who knows what... Oh... and many of the rewards will be 100% exclusive to being obtained via ranks. That means no VIP's, admins, managers, etc. can use them. Only those who actually earned them!
A small disclaimer:
This system has been in the works for a while, but it has been quite hard to implement it smoothly due to many other pressing concerns in the community needing to be addressed first. These rewards, point systems, and other factors are all up for change. If you do not like how something is set-up or a certain reward, then please speak up and let us know! We always like when our community members can suggest to us ideas or ways to do things more efficiently.
One FInal thing:
At this moment we are thinking of a 1 month reset cycle. This is to ensure constant progression of the system allowing us to change or update things frequently. It also gives the greatest chance for anyone participating in the server to have a shot at the fun and prestige that we hope comes with having a fair rank system that is periodically reset for a sort of competition for rewards. Rewards will be handed out for the month AFTER you have been in top spot. So if you were in a top spot in month "n", your rewards will come into play for the whole duration of month "n+1". Of course if you keep placing in the top spots, you can theoretically have those sweet perks forever!
We will also be making an announcement every month with the top ranked players to let everyone know who the current masters of the server are. This sort of cataloging of the ranked individuals over time would also open up possibilities for further rewards and other long-term competitions among these repeat top ranked players. Such a long-term reward/competition system would likely be on a 4-6 month cycle. These last 2 things mentioned above regarding announcing monthly ranks and long-term ranking competition are mere ideas at this point, but why don't we see if we can flesh them out as we get the ranking system to mature! They are also a way of recognizing our players who prefer long-term achievements
Really, why though?
As many of you know, we will no longer be having weekly events, and we thought that many players only coming to win those events and constantly get streaks of free VIP was not contributing much to our server. As most of you also know, we also have plenty of funds for the realistic future (although we always greatly appreciate all of your generous contributions), but what we really, really lack are solid, dedicated players. That is ultimately our end-game goal with this; to give our everyday players more meaningful things to do on the server without necessarily having to pay. I hope everyone is excited for this new era on our server!
